Minutes - Webster Lake Association Meeting

  • President's Report
    • Dick reported on the COLAP meeting he attended and we could use a volunteer WLA member to attend meetings and obtain updated information
    • The NY Times article will be forthcoming and we will be notified by Email – have no idea how long or detailed but publicity of any kind is good
    • Sewer fines of $250 per month will be levied on people who have not yet tied in (140 or so) If you have not done this please do so asap for a number of reasons, especially for the health of the lake
    • Some question as to the correct spelling of the lake name: Rather than make changes, Craig Gorky volunteered to do research and report his findings at the December general meeting
    • Monies from the state are expected to find their way to us soon for lake management (re town)
  • Vice President’s Report:
    • Lands End order sheets with new items were distributed and will be ordered 10/18
    • French River update from Ken Parker informed us that 4 tons of “junk” has been removed to date from volunteers. Dudley put up signs along river for fines for dumping and all of us need to be aware of such illegal actions and report what we see to the respective towns. Ken could always use more help – he is to be congratulated for his work and dedication to a clean environment.
    • Discussion on the Webster Pride group and how we will do everything we can, including assisting with the necessary paperwork to help them become non-profit. Call Bob Craver if; you would like to be involved in this very worthwhile group that has taken much unnecessary publicity recently. Further discussions on assisting them further will happen in the future.
  • Secretary's Report
    • Membership update:
      • South Pond 118
      • North Pond 78
      • Middle Pond 196
      • Off Lake 36
      • Total membership is 428
    • If you are aware of neighbors who have not renewed or new lake dwellers who should join, please help in reminding them of what we do and why they should be a part of the WLA (if you know of people who have moved please let us know as well so we can delete them from our list)
    • Minutes from last month’s meeting approved (Ernie Benoit moved and Tom Pezzella seconded)
    • Gave thanks to Senator Moore who attended the meeting as is a great supporter of the WLA
  • Treasurer's Report
    • Balance is $26,964.30
  • Environmental Committee Report
    • Booklets on weed identification and environmental concerns from GeoSyntch will be out this spring
    • We will need approximately $20,000 for Fanwort control next spring
    • If lake residents want to treat individual or group problems, please contact Paul LaFramboise regarding the best way, time and advice on this as we need to do things properly to maintain a healthy balance of the lake.
    • These concerns may be able to be included in our overall budget as well. WLA already has all the necessary permits to address weeds and it is much more efficient to go through us
    • Paul will be putting forward a proposal with correct wording to the Town of Webster’s Capital Improvement budget to set up a revolving account that will mandate 50% of the boat excise tax paid from residents to be put toward lake management.
    • We are developing a plan with a priority list with the town (Robin Leal and Dennis Westgate) as well as reps from our committee and other town boards for lake management/storm water master plan. Environmental Committee is optimistic, as the town wants to be involved.
    • State monies (approx $20,000) should be coming dedicated toward sediment control with the primary targets being Action Marine area and 395 areas that need to be addressed ASAP
    • The weed control article will be passed over until 2005 to continue to develop a plan with the town
  • FUN-draisers Committee Report
    • Calendars are in and look great. Price is $10.00 and will be sold at a variety of locations.
    • Contributors to the calendar will receive complimentary copies
    • Members present polled wanted the next raffle to be a sailboat rather than hot tub. We will shop around and if you know of any suggestions, contact Judy Morrison
    • Water front Mary’s will host a private Halloween party for WLA upstairs from 8-9 on 10/30 for members and guests with prizes and appetizers (should be a howl)
    • Junque Trunk plans are for auctioning new items, not old junk so stay tuned
    • Valentines Dance plans are underway for February 12th at the Raceway with “Sudden Urge” as the band (really good) Price will be $50.00 per person for dinner and dancing
    • Plans are starting for next year’s summer barbecue. Suggestions? Caterers? Contact Judy
  • New Business

    • Dr. Hirshberg spoke about resuming collection of hazardous waste materials on Nov. 6 from 9-12 at the DPW garage (55 lbs. of waste or 5 gal.) a great opportunity to get rid of unwanted paints, pesticides, mercury thermometers (trade in for new ones), chemicals and poisons etc. Latex paints however, do not need to be recycled and can be thrown away after you let them dry out with normal trash or absorbed with kitty letter and then trashed normally as well. There will be compost bins for sale ($3.00) They will not take cell phones, ammunition, fireworks, tires, pcb’s commercial waste, large drums or medical waste.
    • Indian Ranch notified us of upcoming comedy shows on October 23rd and in November. Chris Roberts is supportive of the WLA and its endeavors and wants Indian Ranch activities to be known to us all.
