INTRODUCTION OF OFFICERS & COMMITTEE CHAIRS

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Dick Cazeault

  • Handling ”politics” – IRS compliance determines how to manage lobbying and politics. We will carefully walk that fine line to comply with the law

  • Any guest speakers must relate directly to our Mission Statement or they will not be allowed to address the group

  • WLA By-Laws – officially done

  • Now working on budgets for the IRS

SECRETARY’S REPORT – Jane Hill

  • Acknowledgement of the great turnout at the town meeting and the successful vote on our amended by-law

TREASURERS REPORT – Robin Wade

  • Current Financial Report 

  • Total Receipts to Date = $5961.50

  • Total Expenses to Date = $551.34

  • Total Cash to Date = $5410.16

  • Revised 50/50 payout rules

  • 50% to the winner

  • 25% Point Breeze Gift Certificate a 2nd winner

  • 25% to the WLA

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership – Jane Hill

  • We requested a liaison to the Webster Pride

  • Bill Keefe spoke about the great work they do and the wine tasting party on the 13th

  • We passed out additional raffle tickets to all members who brought a neighbor

  • WLA Storefront Posters – should go up this month

  • Adopt a Street Program

  • We passed around a list for signups to provide us with a list of names & addresses of waterfront properties. Letters were sent this week to Treasure Island and South Point Road.

  • We still need volunteers for: Bates Point Road, Beacon Park, Black Point Rd, Colonial Road, Goat Island, Henry Road, June Avenue, Killdeer Island Road, Loveland Road, Point Pleasant Road, Reid Smith Cove Road, Thompson Road, Wakefield Avenue, Wawela Road, West Point Road, Westwind Drive

  • Welcome Wagon Program  - starting soon

  • Founding Memberships

  • We are considering increasing the significance of Founding Memberships for 1st year members - All ideas are welcome

  • Memberships make good Christmas gifts!

  • Cable TV  - Webster Cable Access channel – ½ hour program featuring the WLA is being arranged

  • Next Meeting on Tuesday, November 19th at Point Breeze at 7:00. We need additional members!

FUNdraisers – Jeanne Rossetti

  • Junque Trunk Results

  • $3500  raised for the WLA

  • So much fun we’re doing it again next fall

  • Mike & Sharon O’Brien (our auctioneers) were phenomenal!

  • Happy Huladays New Year’s Eve Beach Party

  • Where whatever you want

  • You’re welcome to bring guests

  • Invitations are going out the week of Thanksgiving to members

  • 1st come/1st serve – The invitations are due by December 7th, but don’t wait as this will sell out!

  • Freeport Trip – cancelled due to lack of interest

  • Food Drive

  • Many very full boxes were delivered to the Food Share

  • Our appreciation to all who participated

Environmental Committee – Bob Couture / Paul LaFramboise

  • Reviewed sub-committees including: Water Quality, Weed Control, Angler Education

  • Fishing sub-committee is working on handouts and signage at Memorial Beach, bait shops, Action Marine & Point Breeze.

  • They are coordinating with the Safety committee on this project

  • The handout will have a map with “low spots” on one side

  • Consolidated Beverages will help with cost of signs.

  • The committee is gathering contacts with various fishing clubs to further communicate this info.

  • Paul Kujawski has confirmed that the $600K has been assigned and will be forwarded to the town.

  • WLA has joined one organization (NALMS) and requested permission to join COLAP & QSRNHC

Safety Committees – Randy Wade

  • Safety Signs & Handouts – these will be made available at ramps around the lake and include state and town regulations that are most appropriate

  • Brian Houlihan spoke with Officer Bagley of the WPD

  • Officer Bagley put together a safety flyer you can pick up at the police station

  • The are investigating working with the Coast Guard Auxiliary on arranging boat inspections

  • They are publicizing the schedule of the Coast Guard Flotilla 2002  - an advanced course to pilot a boat. There are possibly insurance discounts if you go through the course

  • Marking of shallow areas on lake is being discussed although there are concerns over liability

  • Safety Program for Youths  - They are planning to sponsor a young adult safety night with refreshments, entertainment and speakers

Newsletter Committee – Jane Hill

  • Copies of the October newsletter will be left with local merchants to further advertise the WLA

  • The next newsletter will go out in February

  • If you did not receive October’s – it is because we do not have the correct mailing address so let us know!

 WLA Youth Group – Arlen Johnson

  • He is asking for other interested individuals (in conjunction with safety, environmental & social committees) to build an army of young people also dedicated to improving the lake

NEW BUSINESS

Gloria Ricker mentioned that we should be notified as to chemical/environmental issues around the lake.  We requested the environmental committee investigate how we can be notified of such events
