Webster Lake Association Meeting
At Point Breeze on February 13,2007

President's Report

  • Update on Spring plans Dick talked about plans for the new environmental committee structure; ACT and GEOSYNTECH will focus on a five-year plan for the lake and weed control, especially addressing problem areas and those we have not dealt with yet; we have a 4 hour weed raking credit for this spring and plans for this will be forthcoming as well. Dick talked about the grants received from the WLA and the French River group. Environmental Committee new (see above)

  • Need volunteer to serve as WLA Librarian and Grant Writer Dick talked about the benefits of having a member who would volunteer to do these tasks. Please contact Dick if you can be of assistance here.

  • Can and Bottle drop off at Marty’s package store in Dudley will donate the proceeds of all the WLA members cans and bottles to us – good deal so Dick will send out a reminder to members to take advantage of this generous offer. Dick also mentioned that Century 21 (Jules Lusignan) has offered to donate $1000 per lake property sold. Thanks you so much. We have had generosity from many Webster businesses and; urge you to support those who support us. A special thank you goes to JMechanical and the Community Browser who have mad e generous donations to the WLA

  • We also discussed pursuing the Turnpike Authority grant monies and the possibility of a visitor’s center at Memorial Beach – wouldn’t that be nice.

Vice Presidents Report

  • Newsletter will come out as needed and information can always be sent to Jane for the next one. Publication will most likely be ¾ times per year. Century 21 will again sponsor the next newsletter for us – thank you for your support. Many of our supporters have contributed to the cost of sending out the newsletter to keep you all informed and this is greatly appreciated.

Secretary's Report

  • Approval of last meeting minutes Minutes read and approved; motion made by Jane Hill and second by Ernie Benoit. Attendance at tonight’s meeting was 38 and thank you AJ for the appetizers you supply as well as the space, for our meetings

Treasurer's Report

  • Financial report Joan read the financials and report was approved; Motion by Dick Cazeault and second Jeannie Rosetti

  • The Future We discussed formation of an Ad Hock committee to help review financials for the future. We have grown beyond expectations and will hopefully, after review become a bonified 501c3 non profit as of this summer (there is a four year review period involved in this process)

  • We have had a joint venture in working with the French River Connection and they are now applying for non-profit status as well. Our relationship has been mutually beneficial and we look forward to many years of working together to protect the watershed area that affects us all.

Environmental Committee Report

  • Raking credit Four hours to credit for the spring

  • Volunteers for Environmental issues this committee represent what we are all about and we need you to be involved. Please consider volunteering some of your time and expertise to keep the lake healthy. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone to do something, experience not necessary but ideas from lake dwellers are appreciated.

  • WQT – Ernie It goes without saying that Ernie has spearheaded the efforts on behalf of Water Quality testing on our lake and we have much to thank him and his band of volunteers for. Grants, Troll 500, data for QUAP, verification of the health of the lake, streams, French River and connections to the Quinebauqq-Shetucket. He will send out information on informative spring training open to all in April. There is a potential for up to $18,000 in grant monies (in-kind grant) to study the brooks and streams that affect the lake, especially in the area of sediment control. Ernie can always use volunteers to help, only a few hours a month, with a great group of fun people, to conduct studies on the lake and estuaries. Can you help us out?

FUN-draisers Committee Report

  • Upcoming events Plans for May 5th – forthcoming to include either a Kentucky Derby theme or Cinco De Mayo

  • Money raffle will be held this year and ticket prices will be $50 instead of $100 with three cash prizes. This will take place May-July and contact Judy Keegan or Linda Littleton if you want to help.

  • Golf tournament will be either Sept. 8/9 at Thompson and we look forward to a second successful year (hopefully a dry one at that)

  • Fifth year anniversary coming up next spring – celebration?

New Business

  • Selectman Peter Slota gave us some very useful information regarding the town’s water supply. Our wells are shallow and if the town sells the water to surrounding towns, out future drinking water supply may be at risk. There is a need to seriously think this process out for the future and the town is willing to work with us to compile data and make the most environmentally conscious decisions here. We are also intimately connected to the French River data as well. Discussion was held on having the town does their part to include WLA. FRC and water department as well as perhaps some dedicated time from the new Town Manager’s office through the water department to work on studying water use and sale of.
