Minutes: Webster Lake Association Meeting
Colonial Club
December 13th, 2005
  • President's Report

    • The postal non-profit rate was approved in July and will coast $.22 per flyer to be mailed. WLA will design it and post office does everything else. The first year, we pay $150 up front and the $150 per year. We usually do @ 12 mailings per year with 500 pieces. The initial savings are $80 year one and then $250 after that.

    • Dick is investigating decals for WLA members and helpers to spread the word

    • Presentation on 2/14 about a book by Nipmuc Indians at point Breeze – public invited

    • WLA encourages all members to attend town meetings and get involved in town committees. If we are all vigilant and active, we can assist with protecting our watershed

    • Dick is working with legislature to suggest that %50 of our excise taxes on boats automatically go for sediment control as opposed to the general coffers as it does now >

    • Uconn is studying the French River and how to revitalize it, and connect it to Webster, the lake and Oxford in the way of trails etc. The question is how to pay for it. Willimantic White River Rafters received a $2 million grant to clean CT River. WLA could possible help back the French River org. about this with people support. Ken Parker spoke to thank the group for coming to the presentation and hopes that we can be mutually supportive in the future.

  • Vice President’s Report

    • The Valentine’s Day Dance will be Feb. 11th and Point Breeze with tickets at $50 per person includes dinner and dancing. The theme is the Love Boat

  • Secretary's Report

    • Membership is 503

    • Motioned by Dick and seconded by Ernie to approve last general minutes from October

  • Treasurer's Report

    • No report was available. (This was approved by email by BOD on 1/5/06

  • Environmental Committee Report

    • Paul K and Dennis Westgate are meeting regarding storm water plans. It was stated that the $165,000 was given to Webster and the Mass Highway used it. It was felt that monies would be used better on the lake.

    • ACT and Geosyntech will be doing lake analysis for next year’s needs.

    • Weeds are spreading at Memorial Beach and it was felt that the town needs to more pro active in funding help for this situation.

    • Signup sheets will be available for lake homeowners to pay and have chemical treatment, hydro-raking done in front of their properties (individual and groups) Fanwort will be targeted this year

    • The QAPP committee designed a book on the lake quality to be submitted to the state. If approved, we may get qualified for federal monies for sediment control.

  • FUN-draisers Committee Report

    • Calendars are $10 – not selling too well

    • The Zimmerman’s will host a Toys for Tots party open house

    • Aerial pictures will be coming around to homes to sell pictures taken this fall

  • Old Business

    • For sale; a Land’s End jacket (men’s large) $75

  • New Business

    • Selectman Slota addressed group and the importance of attending town meetings and voting. Paul L expressed discouragement of attending and not being heard on opinions and requests. Mr. Slota said he would address this issue
