WLA MEETING MINUTES
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2002

  • PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Dick Cazeault

    • Closer to filing IRS forms.

    • The lake was featured in an article in the Boston Sunday Globe.

    • The conservation committee has an opening – a letter was sent to ask them to choose the most qualified person for the job. We have a member of the association who is qualified and will be applying for the position.

    • Cable TV show is in the works for February or March featuring the WLA.

     

  • SECRETARY’S REPORT – Jeanne Rossetti (for Jane Hill)

    • Review of last months minutes.

    • WLA logo – was shown and approved and applauded.

     

  • TREASURER’S REPORT – Dick Cazeault (for Robin Wade)

    • Dick did not have the correct report.

    • Current balance is over $6,000.

 

  • COMMITTEE REPORTS

    • Membership – Jeanne Rossetti (for Jane Hill)

      • A current membership list (as of December 9th) was distributed to all attendees.

      • A plan was discussed to give out Charter Memberships at the WLA 1st Birthday Party in July.

      • A Membership Drive for the spring was discussed. It was stressed that the entire membership is responsible for bringing in their friends and neighbors. The more members, the more effective the association will be.

      • Adopt a Street Program

        • A current list of streets was given to all attendees for more volunteers to bring the names and numbers of the streets listed.

        • Letters were sent to Fairfield Street, Indian Lane, Lakeside Avenue, Laurelwood Drive, South Shore Road and Treasure Island.

        • There has been great success with the streets where people have been sent letters.

        • More volunteers are needed.

         

    • FUNdraisers – Jeanne Rossetti (for Jeanne Rossetti)

      • Next meeting for the FUNdraisers is December 16th, Point Breeze 7:00. Anyone interested in joining the committee are welcome.

      • Happy Hula Days- Tickets are going fast a great time is planned and we are hoping the entire association will join us to ring in the New Year.

      • Membership committee help – we will work in concert with the membership group to heighten awareness of the association.

      • New Business

        • WLA Calendar for 2004 – a photo contest will be planned for 2003.

        • Summer Party to celebrate the first birthday of the WLA will be held in July.

        • Youth Committee – boating safety night, boat wash, meet and greet party for the kids. Parents need to encourage their children to attend.

        • Golf Tournament is in the initial planning stages – anyone who wants to pitch in is welcome.

         

    • Environmental Committee – Scott Goulet (for Bob Couture/Paul LaFramboise)

      • The Environmental Bond bill is still pending. There are also matching funds that we are researching.

      • ‘Stream Team’ volunteers will be walking the streams and entrances to the lake to look for issues and potential problems. State people will be available to train the teams on what to look for.

      • The committee will has sent a letter to the BOS asking that no permits be awarded to the company that harvests weeds as that process is detrimental to the lake.

      • There is an opening on the Conservation Board that a member of the Environmental Committee will be applying for.

      • Funds are needed for Weed Mapping Program.

       

    • Safety Committee – Dick Cazeault (for Randy Wade)

      • Signs for Safety Do’s and Don’t has been created and will be passed out on the lake and put up at the boat ramps.

      • Winder safety tips will be done for the website and distrubution.

      • The FUNdraiser committee will be working with the Safety Committee on a Youth Boating Safety Night.

 

  • ANNOUNCEMENTS

    • The WLA monthly meetings will now be on a bi-monthly basis. Next meeting is February 11th at Point Breeze, 7pm.

    • 50/50 raffle - $49.00 to the winner, a $25.00 gift certificate to another winner and $25.00 to the WLA.

    • J.P. Stevens will be the ‘official’ Webster Lake Historian and will be working with Dick Cazeault on a booklet on the history of the lake.
