Our mission is to preserve this regionally unique resource as a pristine legacy for future generations."

Webster Lake Association – Chronological History

  • July 2002

  • An email went out to a small group concerning the lack of representation in town government and the need for a lake association

  • With the support of this group a domain name was purchased and website began to take shape

  • August 2002

  • The first WLA Meeting was organized at Point Breeze

  • Officers were elected

  • Membership structure was decided.

  • Committees were formed

  • A charity softball game was held with the staff of Point Breeze to benefit the Hole-In-The-Wall Gang

  • September 2002

  • With the help of Representative Paul Kujawski and Senator Moore, the WLA was able to get a commitment from Secretary Durand (Executive Office of Environmental Affairs) to begin funding of a Sediment Control Program for Webster Lake. The total program commitment was for $4.35 million.

  • October 2002

  • The 1st WLA Board of Directors was elected

  • The 1st Quarterly WLA Newsletter went out to our members

  • Through the Town Meeting process we succeeded in amending a by-law regarding dock permits

  • Our financial first budget was submitted

  • The Environmental Committee established a mission and prioritized goals

  • November 2002

  • We held a “Junque Trunk” Auction as a 1st WLA Fundraiser

  • We participated in a Food Drive for the Webster Food Share

  • Our By-Laws were completed

  • WLA has joined COLAP (Mass Congress of Lakes and Ponds) and NALMS (North American Lake Management Society)

  • December 2002

  • The WLA Logo was approved

  • The Environmental Committee sent a letter to the BOS to prevent the continuation of Weed Harvesting

  • A “Happy Huladays” New Year’s Eve Beach Party was held at Point Breeze

  • The Safety Signs to be posted around the lake were completed

  • January 2003

  • We announced a new Webster Lake Association Historian position

  • We began the formation of a Webster Lake Association Business Plan

  • The amended Dock By-Law was submitted to the Attorney General’s office

  • February 2003

  • A WLA presentation was recorded for our local cable access channel

  • Paul LaFramboise met with the Webster Board of Selectmen to explain our mission

  • We participated in a COLAP seminar

  • GeoSyntec gave a presentation on Lake Management for the Environmental Committee

  • Sailing Association announced no more weed harvesting in their cove until after our lake survey

  • WORC hosted a Radio Show on Ice Fishing Safety and the Randy & Courtney Wade of the WLA participated

  • March 2003

  • We received our non-profit status from the IRS

  • We are applied for a historical grant through the Quinebaug-Shetucket Heritage Corridor

  • Webster Lake had a minor mention in the April issue of Reader’s Digest.

  • Aquatic Controls gave a presentation on Lake Management for the Environmental Committee

  • April 2003

  • The Attorney General’s office approved the amended dock by-law

  • Lycott gave a presentation on Lake Management for the Env Committee

  • A Webster Lake Photography contest and 2004 Calendar was announced

  • May 2003

  • We participated in the Town’s Earth Day by organizing clean-up crews around the lake

  • We began sales of Webster Lake Association T-Shirts

  • We selected GeoSyntec as our Lake Management Partner

  • June 2003

  • GeoSyntec gave a presentation to our members on the plans for the Lake Survey as well as potential future projects

  • The Town voted to suspend the dock permit program for one year

  • We put together a deal with Land’s End to provide WLA clothing to our members

  • Fund Raising efforts specific to the Lake Management Program began

  • July 2003

  • GeoSyntec’s Survey of Invasive Weeds and Water Quality took place on the lake

  • We held the first ever WLA Boat Parade as part of the Town’s 4th of July celebration

  • We announced a SeaDoo Raffle to raise money for the Lake Management Program

  • August 2003

  • We held the WLA Birthday Party at Indian Ranch

  • We began sales of the Webster Lake Association Flags

  • We voted on the 13 top lake photos for the 2004 Webster Lake Association Calendar

  • We selected the winner of the Lake Management SeaDoo Raffle
