middle

Webster –
They may have started years ago as a social group but the founding
members of the South Pond Association have come into the 21st
Century with a much broader vision. “It’s time we dispel the old
myth of Webster Lake and start fishing in the middle,” said Kevin
Kuzdzal, member of the newly formed Webster Lake Association. “We
all need to stop looking at the lake from only one side and look
at what’s best for everyone.”
Encompassing
1270 acres, Webster Lake is the second largest natural fresh water
lake in MA CT, and RI. Yet it is one of the few lakes without an
active inclusive organized group of area residents that are
focused on its future needs safety, and improvement.
Born on the 4th
of July, the Webster Lake Association is using that spark to
hopefully ignite a community-wide sense of awareness for the
critical issues affecting the future of Webster Lake. Working
together with the Nipmuc Ski Club, Killdeer Island Club, Webster
Sailing Association and Webster Pride, the members hope to address
and resolve the dock registration process and fee usage concerns,
safety & environmental problems, waterway law education, and weed
control.
Collaborating
with other lake associations, they are looking to increase funding
resources for grants, matching funds and legislative support.
Working closely with members of the Webster Public Works, Fire and
Police Departments, Highway, Conservation Commission and Board of
Selectmen they hope to foster a long-term positive and productive
working relationship.
“It’s not that
we are objecting to the Webster or State by-laws for boat dock
registration, we just want to fine-tune the process,” said Henry
Neeser, Dock Permit Committee Chairman. “This is the town’s third
attempt, and we need to clarify the process so we can make the
system work for Webster and dedicate the usage of the fees. We
are looking forward to becoming a partner with the Board of
Selectmen and all town services.”
Along with the
critical issues addressed by both the Dock Permits and
Environmental & Safety Committees, the Social and Charitable
Committee is also looking to provide support to the association as
well as other community organizations. “We will be raising money
to help local charities as well as help all the residents to band
together,” said Jeanne Rossetti, the Chairman of the Social and
Charitable Committee. “We have lots of fun ideas including a
charity soft ball game, large garage sale, boat parade, and a
photo contest involving the whole family.”
“The next
meeting is September 10th 7 pm at Point Breeze and we
want people who live on and off the lake to come join with us to
help secure the future of Webster Lake,” said Randy Wade,
President of the Nipmuc Ski Club and member of WLA. Currently,
memberships include voting privileges for lakefront residents with
deeded water rights and non-voting for any concerned member of the
Webster community. Additional information about the WLA may be
