Selectmen last
week approved a one-year moratorium on dock permits at Webster
Lake.
The action will
allow the town time to step back and take a look at the whole
process, selectmen said.
Chairman Robert
Miller stated, “We are trying to make Town Hall move user-friendly
and I think it’s important for us to make it easier for the
renewal of dock permits”.
Selectman Irene
Martel suggested that the town scrape all the bylaws pertaining to
dock permits at the Town Meeting in October and come up with a
simpler one that tells residents exactly what is required. She
then suggested the moratorium. Martel said that the state
Department of Environmental Protections (DEP) has raised some
questions as to the legality of the dock bylaw adopted back in
1988.
“We’ve made all
these bylaws without consulting the DEP,” she said.
The board
decided to have a committee consisting of Webster Lake Association
members and police discussing the situation with the DEP.
Selectmen Mark
Dowgiewicz suggested that the board contact state Sen. Richard
Moore, D-Uxbridge, and state Rep. Paul Kujawski, D-Webster, and
ask them to file a bill seeking to repeal the dock bylaw in fresh
water. The board agreed. |
