Lake Association Grows to 119 Households
November 12, 2002,
Webster, MA - The cold fall wind-driven rain covered the windows
and poured from the roof at Point Breeze while enthusiastic
members of the Webster Lake Association savored warm summer
memories and made plans for a Happy Huladays New Year's Eve Beach
Party.
Although still
within the first year of conception, the membership has steadily
grown to include 119 households. Members residing both on
and off the lake represent the three ponds of Webster Lake.
They are dedicated to enhancing, preserving and protecting the
quality of the lake and its watershed through the promotion of
responsible, effective environmental and educational policies.
"We're friends and
neighbors of Webster Lake connecting together to help accomplish
good things for our lake and our community," said association
secretary Jane Hill. "We all strive to strengthen and unite
the Webster Lake community through recreational, social and civic
activities."
"Committees are
formed and working. A board of directors has been elected and the
first draft of the by-laws are written which makes us one step
closer to becoming a not for profit organization," explained
association president, Dick Cazeault. "We are focused and
clear about our mission to preserve and protect this regionally
unique resource as a pristine legacy for future generations.
We are not a political organization and as such everything we do
will be focused on our mission."
Education being an
essential element of the association, Randy Wade, Safety Committee
Chairman, explained several activities scheduled for this next
year. "We're working with the Coast Guard Auxiliary to help
support boater safety and education. We're also developing
flyers and posters that will inform the public about hazards,
state and local regulations, and seasonal safety aspects."
Promoting a
collaborative foundation with other community based organizations
such as Webster Pride and Webster Sailing Association; member
liaisons maintain a cooperative spirit strengthening mutual
programs and projects.
The association is
also looking to actively include an army of young people who will
come to appreciate and understand the value of Webster Lake
energizing a new generation of dedicated adults thereby ensuring a
better future for our community.
Upcoming fund
raising and civic events include an annual 'Junque' Trunk auction,
New Years Eve party, regional trips, food drives, boat washes,
raffles, membership drives and new resident hospitality and
outreach programs. Members filled holiday boxes with
nonperishable food items to help the Webster/Dudley Food Share.
The next meeting
will be held at Point Breeze on December 10th starting at 7 p.m.
New members are encouraged to attend. Additional information
