Webster- They arrived in polar fleece, heavy
winter coats and snow boots. The faint sound of snowmobiles could
be heard from across the lake as the scent of a nearby fireplace
touched the cold night air. Within minutes the members of the
Webster Lake Association (WLA) had all but forgotten the crusty
snow that covered the earth outside Point Breeze as images of the
sun and the sounds of the Beach Boys turned the temperatures up
inside.
The WLA Happy Huladays New Year's Eve Beach
Party brought an early summer to Webster Lake. More than sixty
members and guests comfortably dressed in beach attire, dined,
danced and enjoyed the warmth of friendship as they welcomed in
the New Year. Every detail was carefully planned including the
beach sand however; mosquitoes were not invited.
"What I've most enjoyed about the WLA is getting
to know my neighbors. The complex act of developing the
organization has allowed people to showcase their extraordinary
management, legal, financial and environmental skills," said WLA
Secretary Jane Hill. "But clearly our creative talent lies with
the Social Committee who put together this terrific night of fun."
Because of the volunteer energy and talents of
Korey Sterczala, who initiated the 'Beach Party' idea; Karla
Turner, who awed the crowd with a special hand decorated
Webster-Lake cake complete with a registered and numbered small
dock; Dick Coes and Rebecca Leonard who prepared a fun beach scene
caricature board; and Marion Zimmerman, who provided great table
décor, including beach balls, the evening was a great success.
"Given that many of us did not even know one
another six months ago, it was terrific to see things come
together so successfully," acknowledged WLA President Dick
Cazeault. "Hopefully this sense of dedication and community spirit
will grow and grow throughout 2003."
